Am I a tyrant?
Friday, February 20th, 2009According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary I may be: 2a: a ruler who exercises absolute power oppressively or brutally b: one resembling an oppressive ruler in the harsh use of authority or power.
So I may not be brutal, but man I am passing out the time outs like no ones business. Crying unnecessarily (in my opinion)? Time out! Pushing, shoving, general rudeness/craziness? You’re outta here! Most recently I’ve decided to put the kabash on using mom as a waitress/maid. I’ve told the kids unless there is a tip on the table when they decide to pick up and leave, their plates better be taken to the kitchen. Plates on the table? No tip? Time out, baby! Sadly, my eldest has been the biggest offender and has spent much time in the dark abyss of the laundry room (our designated time out corner).
So what do you think? Tyrant or just a grouchy, overweight pregnant lady? Maybe there’s really no difference…
January Bliss
Wednesday, February 4th, 2009January has a bad rap for being a drag, but I think it’s like most things in life, it is what you make it. I’ve had some blissful January memories I thought were worth sharing. Towards the beginning of the month the kids had a day off of school which meant we had Erik’s sister Kirsten free to come and play (she’s a school teacher). We decided to take the ferry into the city. It was a beautiful clear day and actually pretty warm (which is rare for San Francisco). We ate lunch at the Rain Forest Cafe near Pier 39, checked out the Sea Lions, rode the carousel, ate our weights worth of mini doughnuts and watched a street performer juggle knives and set himself on fire. It really doesn’t get much cooler.
The bliss continued on into Erik’s 31st birthday weekend. Kirsten and Dallas watched the kids for 2 days (yes, they are awesome) while Erik and I took off to Monterey to enjoy some relaxation and some amazing scenery. We were like an old retired couple just driving around drinking dt. coke and eating cinnamon bears stopping only occasionally to get out and and putter around. I highly recommend a “no agenda” trip to all married couples out there, we had a blast.
